I think it is time…

27 08 2008

I do believe with all my heart that my old trusty friend is moving on.

That’s right, my hard drive is going out again.  It has been repeatedly just stopping.  Zip, zilch, nada.

I have been able to get it up and running enough to backup my photos, videos, files, and e-mails.

We have been saying for months now that this is the year of the new computer.  I was hoping to make it a bit longer.  But, it is inevitable.

I had a hard crash in February of 07 and was able to retrieve my data and install a new one then.  (A month and $300 later.)

I purchased a large external and begin backing up as I went, in case it happened again.  Well thought out plan.

So, now begins the research.  The search for the best computer for the work that I do.    Just any old computer won’t do.

I work them hard and need something out of the box that can handle it.

This one has served me well and I will be prepared when it goes.

The Craziest Olympic Sport?

20 08 2008

I happened to be up around 3:00am the other morning and decided to peek at what was happening Olympic wise.

There it was, a whole slew of men, speed walking.  Oh yes, it is an Olympic Sport.  I had no idea.

I had to record a few minutes of it because, I thought Todd would never believe me.  I was right and fortunately had video back-up to prove myself.

It was very interesting!

Our little friend!

15 08 2008

On our porch, we are growing some potted herbs.

Our parsley plant has a resident.

He is an Anise Swallowtail Caterpillar.  This is our second this year and we are looking forward to watching him form his cocoon and become a beautfiul butterfly.

We will make sure to upload updated pictures as he grows!

Here we are again!

14 08 2008

It is the beginning of the Scout year.  We are Bears this year.

Between planning school activities, I have been busy planning Scout activities.  I want to make sure it stays fun, really fun.

Tyler is my buddy, and I am glad we have taken this on together.

Ok, so after a busy week doing school and …

11 08 2008

working, I will share my hobby with you.

Geocaching has entered our lives.  “Geo what?”  Geocaching.

To put it midly, it’s using expense satellites to find hidden tupperware full of trinkets from the doller store.

Here’s how it works.

Someone posts the latitude and longitude of the hidden stash.  Then, we take GPS units and try to find them.
Sounds simple…Not so much.  Once, you locate the correct coordinates you have to find it.  Hidden in a log, under something, attached to something, hanging from something, stuck in something, behind something.  You never know where it might be.  All this, while not being spotted by Muggles. (non-geochachers)

Not always a tupperware or rubbermaid container.  Some are camoflauged, ammo boxes, even down to a small film canister or small pill box.

You find the container, open it, sign your name to the log book and sometimes you get to take something from the treasure box.  However, if you take something out, you MUST put something back in.  If you don’t have anything to leave, don’t take anything out.  Hide the container exactly, where you found it.

It’s that simple.

Go home, log onto your account and log your finds or your “DNF” did not finds.

Super fun, super addictive.

There are plenty to find almost 70, 000 worldwide.

Check it out at http://www.geocaching.com

Interested but don’t have a GPS?  Check out http://www.letterboxing.org (North American Version) this also goes worldwide.

So far, I have made my mom, husband, son, and two friends go Geocaching with me.  Tyler loves it and get super excited when we find one and get to choose a treasure.  I carry a stash of things to replace it with in the car with us, Just in Case!

Too much fun, some you can drive right up to, some you have to hike to.  It’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while on a SECRET Mission.

Remember, beware of Muggles.  (You’ll learn.)

I’ve found a new hobby.

29 07 2008

Due to the fact that I just don’t have enough going on in my life right now.  (Dripping with sarcasim).

I have taken up a new hobby.  I’m not going to talk about it much right now but, it is fun and a bit edgy.

I’m trying to get Todd, mom, Jackie, and Kimberly on board too.  Tyler is itching to hit the pavement with me.  I think they will all jump in, it will just take a bit of work first.

I think it would be a fun guys against girls type of thing.  We’ll see.

Ask no questions, I’ll tell you about it later.

Happy Birthday Mom!

20 07 2008

Today is my mom’s birthday.

The bad thing is that she has to work most of it.  She will come home in a bit and have a few hours off.  We will celebrate it then!

The good thing is that today is her birthday and we will have a good day!

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

Had it not been for…

16 07 2008

How many times have we said this?

Had I not had to stop at the bank, I would have been in that accident?  Had we left on time we wouldn’t have seen the beautiful deer?

Things happen all the time that put us in the right place at the right time or in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well, this morning, I happened to look out and see that our grape tomato plant needed water.  I noticed this while Phantom was in the yard for her morning romp around.  Usually, I let her out and she just comes back up whenever, and I ask Tyler to water the plants.

I fill the jug and walk on the porch.  I see Phantom out of the corner of my eye, just standing under the porch wagging her tail.  She wasn’t barking or biting, just standing there wagging her tail.

She rarely does this, so I venture down to see what has her attention.  As I round the bottom of the stairs, I see it.  Wrapped and tangled in one of Tyler’s tennis nets is a bunny.  One of our family of four that we have in the yard.  It was a baby.  Shaking and scared.

Phantom was amazing.  Not one peep and she walked with me as I carried the net and the bunny up the stairs to rescue him from the grips of death.  Literally, all I could see was the net was completly tangled around both legs and he wasn’t going anywhere.

I managed to get Tyler’s attention and he brought me some scissors.

I realized as I am trying to untangle him that it is also tightly wrapped around his little neck.

I cut the net from his neck first and he starts kicking, I cut one leg free.  Upon cutting the second leg free, I realize he must have been there fighting for a while.  He had tried so hard to get out, his leg was completly mangled.  You could see the bones.  I felt horrible.

He was anxious to get down and stayed pretty calm as I carried him down the stairs to the grass.

When I set him free, he took off.  Ran to his usual hiding place and that was it.   He hops a bit crooked but, he is still hopping.

I hope that he will be ok.  Tyler said to throw away the net, he didn’t need it and didn’t want anymore animals to get hurt in it.

We have named him Sir Hops-a-lot.  Hopefully, we wil see him again.

A few things you didn’t know about me!

8 07 2008

Here’s a list of seven things you didn’t know about me.

  1. I played the clarinet and the alto saxophone, was on the school’s dance team and took dance classes 3-4 nights a week during middle school.
  2. In 11th Grade, I went to the US Chef’s Open and won Second Place for a Curried-Pork Chop over rice dish.
  3. In 12th Grade, I lettered in Drama.  I played Snoopy in the Spring Musical “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.”, and was in Show Choir and Yearbook Staff.
  4. I Love to take apart the layers of a Kit-Kat bar and eat them one layer at a time.
  5. I like to squish McDonald’s French Fries before I eat them, I haven’t figured that one out yet.
  6. I have a spirit that I have seen since middle school, his name is Charlie and he is an Asian man in a white suit.  (Don’t believe me? ask Todd and my mom.)  Todd has seen him too, mom has only heard him.
  7. I have owned three businesses.  A dance studio when I was 19, Amazing Grace Dance School.  A gift basket company when I was 21, A Tisket, A Basket. And now for the past 6 years, AMAM Productions.  Obviously, my passion is the last one.

That’s it for now.  That’s my seven.  Share some of your own!
